German M38 Luftschutz 'Gladiator' style three-piece helmet. Complete with liner and chinstrap. The helmet shows honest wear, with almost all of the original dark blue finish present with typical edge wear to the paint. The Luftschutz winged swastika is mostly preserved. The interior of the helmet is in excellent condition. The three-pad, civil-type liner shows wear and unfortunately, the liner string is missing and the fastening holes are torn. The white leather chin strap, often missing, is still in place and complete. The rear inner skirt is stamped RL2-38/28 indicating manufacture by Paul Diener, Dresden. The original decal on the rear skirt confirms that the helmet meets Luftschutz regulations. Also, the helmet size is shown on the decal as '56' and the highest authorized sale price of the helmet is indicated as 8 Reichsmarks.
The Luftshutz helmets were worn by air raid wardens and teams, tasked with extinguishing fires and rescuing survivors after the air raids.
