Crimean campaign shield (German: Krimschild).
Steel construction with soldered-on prongs.
Complete with backplate, army wool, and original factory green backing paper.
Uniform removed.
Instituted on July 25th, 1942, to commemorate the German advance into the Crimea between 21 September 1941 and 4 July 1942. Awarded to military personnel (including Romanian allies), including supporting naval and air force units, who met one of the award requirements, i.e. have served in the region for 3 months, or have taken part in at least one major combat operation, or have been wounded while serving in the region.
The campaign shield was worn on the upper left sleeve of the uniform.
