Wehrpass issued to Richard Otto, SS-Rottenführer in Bitterfeld, in 1940.
From December 1940 until August 1944, R. Otto served with several Luftwaffe Signal units. In August 1944, he was transferred to 3.Lw.Wachbtl.BII, a guard unit of the Mittelbau (Dora) concentration camp, a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp. The SS took over the unit in September 1944 as 3.SS-WachKdo. Mittelbau, later renamed 3.SS-T-Stuba Mittelbau. On September 1, 1944, his Obergefreiter rank was changed to the SS equivalent of SS-Rottenführer. Lastly, in January 1945, he started his service in 3./SS-Totenkopf-Wachbataillon Sachsenhausen, the notorious K.L. Sachsenhausen guards unit, where he served the rest of the war.
The post-war fate of this individual is yet unknown, but it has excellent potential for additional research.
Wehrpass is complete, with an ID photo of the owner in a civilian suit.
The document shows minor signs of use and wear and light tears, and the cover page is perforated for storage (probably by Soviet security agents).
