General assault badge by Rudolf Karneth, Gablonz. Die stamped silver-washed zinc base with crimped in ball hinge and catch. Typical R. Karnet production.
The silver finish is partly lost. Otherwise very good condition.
Instituted by General Walther von Brauchitsch on January 1st, 1940. Designed by the firm of Ernst Peekhaus of Berlin. The badge was to be awarded to those German soldiers who participated in infantry attacks but were not a part of infantry units and therefore did not qualify for the Infantry assault badge.
