General assault badge by Rudolf Souval, Wien. Die stamped silver-washed zinc base with a soldered-on set-up. Maker marked on the reverse 'R.S.' for R. Souval.
Excellent condition.
Instituted by General Walther von Brauchitsch on January 1st, 1940. Designed by the firm of Ernst Peekhaus of Berlin. The badge was to be awarded to those German soldiers who participated in infantry attacks but were not a part of infantry units and therefore did not qualify for the Infantry assault badge.
