Tombac construction with enameled surface and soldered-on pin.
There are no visible markings. Excellent condition.
Scarce unit pin of the Fliegerhorst, housing the famous Jagdgeschwader 26 „Schlageter“. The Fliegerhorst Ostheim was built in 1937 in the Köln (Cologne) neighborhood, east of the river Rhine. It served as the base for Jagdgeschwader 234, later renamed Jagdgeschwader 26 „Schlageter“. The Geschwader was primarily equipped with Messerschmitt Bf109 airplanes and later Focke Wulf FW190's. In the following years, Ostheim was also used by stationing gliders for paratroopers, Messerschmitt Bf 109 and Bf 110 of Erprobungsgruppe 210 (Schnellkampfgeschwader 210) and III. Gruppe des Nachtjagdgeschwaders 1 (III./NJG 1), and Junkers Ju 87 of Nachtschlachtgruppe 2. Luftwaffe planes were also stationed here, leaving for Unternehmen Bodenplatte on January 1, 1945, a surprise, low-level, mass air attack on Allied airfields in Belgium, the Netherlands, and France.
