Very nice original cased Luftwaffe anti-aircraft combat badge marked "G.B." on the reverse indicating production by Gustav Brehmer, Markneukirchen.

The badge itself is in very good condition, a zinc production with soldered-on steel set-up. The cardboard dark blue box, however, has some minor issues: worn edges and two torn corners of the upper part of the case, signs of wear on the insert of the case.

Instituted on January 10, 1941, by Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring. Designed by W.E. Peekhaus of Berlin in 1940. The badge was awarded in recognition of anti-aircraft or ground combat. All air defense artillery personnel (including radar control units and searchlight units) were eligible for the badge. The attribution was based on points addition, where 16 points were necessary. Points were earned as follows:

1 point for the first detection of incoming aircraft by means of 150cm or 60 cm searchlights by acoustical means, and following the aircraft to another searchlight team;
2 points for participation in the downing of an enemy aircraft by means of ground-based fire or participation in the downing of an enemy aircraft by means of blinding the aircraft with searchlights;
4 points for downing an enemy aircraft without the participation of other batteries.

The badge could also be presented for single meritorious actions or distinctive leadership. The Battery Commander could also be awarded if half of his Battery crew were already decorated.

The badge was to be worn on the left uniform upper pocket.
