Inverted, triangular red prisoner identification patch with a black 'T' for Tscheche (English: Czech) owned by Oldřich Pěta and his post-war personal file.
The red cloth of the patch was usually used to identify political prisoners, with a letter to indicate nationality.
According to the personal file (dated March 21, 1953), Oldřich was imprisoned in The Small Fortress in 1943 for fleeing (or trying to flee) the Reich. The Small Fortress in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia served as a prison of the Prague Gestapo for the opponents of the Nazi regime in 1940–1945.
It is possible that Oldřich was later transported from Terezín onwards, possibly to one of the German extermination, concentration, and slave labor camps.
According to a document of Registration of Foreigners in American Zone of Occupation in Germany, dated December 14, 1948, a person named Oldřich Pěta was registered in Bad Neustadt an der Saale. Although highly likely, it is impossible to know for sure if this is the same person or not.
